Nicki Minaj will be honored as NARM’s “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” at the 2011 NARM Music Business Convention Awards Dinner Finale to take place at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 12. After building steam as an underground MC, Minaj, “part comic, part sex symbol and all-the-way lyrical assassin,” burst into the mainstream in 2010. In October, she became the first artist to have seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously and the only artist to have eight titles on the chart in a year. Her debut album Pink Friday (Young Money/Cash Money), released November 21, 2010, sold more copies in the first week than any other female rapper in a decade. Pink Friday was RIAA certified platinum within a month of release, and was one of the best-selling releases of 2010. She also received a 2011 GRAMMY Nomination for “Best Rap Performance by Duo or Group” for the single “My Chick Bad” with Ludacris.

“Nicki Minaj is a musical phenomenon. Her exceptional creativity and outstanding performances were a game-changer in 2010,” said Jim Donio, President of NARM. “Her debut release was ‘breakthrough’ in every sense of the word, and we look forward to more music from this extraordinary young artist.”

Her freestyle rapping and mix tapes earned her attention from many, including Lil Wayne, who instantly made her part of Young Money. As her notoriety began to rise, Minaj began to cultivate vivid individual personalities for her performances: Nicki Lewinsky, Nicki the Ninja, Nicki the Harajuku Barbie and Nicki the Boss each hold their own place in Minaj’s creative, ever-expanding mind. She gave commanding performances on singles including Kanye West’s “Monster,” which also features Jay-Z and her infectious, standout appearances alongside Lil Wayne (“Knockout”), Usher (“Lil Freak”), Trey Songz (“Bottoms Up”), Robin Thicke (“Shakin’ It 4 Daddy”), Sean Kingston (“Letting Go”), and Christina Aguilera (“WooHoo”), leaving everyone waiting to hear what she could do on her own release.

Pink Friday did not disappoint. With just over 30 days of sales in 2010, it was one of the best-selling releases of the year, and went to #1 on the Billboard charts in January 2011. Minaj is currently on tour in the U.S. and Canada through the end of April.

I just picked it up on Itunes today and it awesome. Check it out.

I love "Right Thru Me" because it really spoke to me. I can relate to the lyrics of the song and that is most important for music to do. Nicki Minaj has the ability to make that happen in all of her songs. This one, in particular, touches my soul, LOL, yes the soul. I listen to it and I can feel me speaking the words out. I turn it on and drift away. Nicki has such a beautiful voice and her versatile sound with the singing and rapping on the track is amazing. She really did if with this one. I can't wait until the album "Pink Friday," hits the scene. Its going to be awesome. Speaking of the album it is going be her on 11.23.10 and I can't wait.

Nicki in Ebony Mag

By now, you’ve heard her animated vocals on a club banger and, at the very least, wondered just who this 25-year-old female rapper/singer thinks she is. We chat with her right before she puts the finishing touches on her debut album, Pink Friday, due in November, and find out.

ON WHY SHE’S SO HOT RIGHT: People gravitate toward good music. And l like to think that he majority of what I’ve put out falls into that category.

ON WHY SHE WEARS THOSE COLORFUL WIGS: You can be a new person every day. That’s how I feel. I feel like when I change my hair, I’m a different person.

ON WHY SHE KEEPS IT –KIND OF- CLEAN: My fans seem to get younger and younger. So it’s very important for me to speak to a child differently than I would speak to an adult. And when all a child can hear is your music and see the way you dress, that’s the only thing you can really use to kind of steer [him or her] in the right direction. So I toned it down a bit. The music will always remain authentic. So taking out a few curse words every now and then doesn’t make you less credible of a rapper.

ON MEETING LIL WAYNE, HER BOSS: It was nerve-racking. I was very nervous. I wanted to postpone it as long as possible. He’s very intimidating. But it was a great meeting. We spoke for hours and when I walked out of that meeting. I didn’t know if I got the gig to be a part of Young Money. But I did feel like I’d just met an icon, and that was good enough for me.

ON HER BIGGEST FEMALE RAP INFLUENCE: Lauryn Hill. She really changed my life. She probably changed millions of lives around the world. But she changed my life on a music aspect.

ON WHY SHE LOVES MIXTAPES: That’s the only route I could take. I didn’t have an option. What do you do when you don’t have a major behind you, and you know that you have skills and you’re talented and you want the world to hear you? You put it on a mixtape. It’s all about taking you destiny into you own hands.

ON WHAT’S SHOCKED HER MOST ABOUT FAME: How judgmental people can be. That’s the biggest thing. It’s almost like people act like they’re perfect and it makes them feel better to put you donw. That’s the only shocking part. I always knew there’d be jealousy and envy. I guess that doesn’t change, even in the real world, so to speak. There’s jealousy and envy when you’re doing better than people. But I was taken aback by it. It was very shocking in the beginning.

ON WHAT DATING IS LIKE FOR HER NOW: I don’t date guys. I hang out with my girls. They’re sexier, anyway, and they’re more fun. And less needy.

The picture below, diddy caters to Minaj. Thats right treat her like the Queen she is. He such a gentlemen. Diddy held Nicki's dress while she walks and helped her down the stairs. That's what Im talking about. A man playing a mans role. I love it. Luda and Nicki looks nice. Luda's rocking the orange collar shirt and Nicki's wearing the hell out that orange hair.
